Ian Brooks leads the computational medicine group at NCSA whose aim is to bring the resources of a leading supercomputing center to medicine and public health. He has been developing software systems for biomedical data management and analysis for almost twenty years, initially to support his work as a bench researcher in HIV/AIDS and more recently for larger biomedical communities. The current focus of his work is to apply the common computational infrastructure NCSA is building for the earthquake, astronomy, environmental, and atmospheric science communities, to the biomedical field. Current projects include:
- Developing a cyberenvironment to support translational biomedical research with the University of Illinois at Chicago’s Center for Clinical Translational Sciences where he serves as co-Director of the biomedical informatics core.
- Working with the Integrated Malaria Management Consortium to develop a cyberinfrastructure to support control of endemic diseases.
- Developing a cyberenvironment to integrate infectious disease surveillance, modeling and public health response.
- Designing a framework to support algorithmic medicine
