Dr. Xiao Ma expertizes in health behavior research. He has contributed to the development of concepts and methodology of health behavior and health education in China. Dr. Ma is the chairman of China Council on education for Public Health, chief editor of the journal of Modern Preventive Medicine, member of Council of Chinese Preventive Medicine Association, member of National Committee on Health Promotion/Health Education and member of National Committee on STD and HIV/AIDS Prevention.
As pricinple investigator, Dr. Ma conducted several studies on HIV/AIDS prevention among high risk populations; research on establishing the internet-based information center on adolescent development and HIV/AIDS prevention; intervention research on tobacco control among elementary students, high school students and college students; research on health education towards indoor air pollution, and so on. Results from these studies provided many valuable information on behavior change and accelerated the translation of health behavior theory into practice.
Dr. Ma is now responsible for serveral research, including research on capacity building to respond HIV/AIDS in China, research on social network and health service utilization of rural-to-urban migrant population in China, smoking intervention among high school students in Chengdu, and research on protecting the rural poor against the economic consequences of major illness.
Dr. Ma has published many papers on Chinese and international journals. Also, he is the chief editor of Health Education published by Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health; the chief editor of first edition of Health-related Behaviors; and the chief editor of the first edition of Sex and Health of Adolescent.
