Visa and Travel Arrangements to Beijing
Cultural and Local Sightseeing Activities
The Chinese hosts for the US-China Infectious Disease NSF workshop (which runs concurrently with our US-China Tobacco Research NSF workshop), have kindly made the arrangements for a couple of (optional) cultural and local sightseeing activities when we are in Beijing.
Trip A: On March 27 (Thursday), we have booked a tour bus to take those interested to visit
- Great Wall
- Ming Dynasty Tombs
This will be a whole-day tour starting in the morning and getting back to the conference hotel in late afternoon.
Trip B: On March 29 (Saturday), the official workshop program will end in the early afternoon. A tour bus will take us to visit several local shopping places for souvenirs, etc. After the shopping trip, the bus will take us to a Chinese tea house for dinner and evening cultural shows.
Trip C: Many of you will leave on March 30 in the afternoon. For the morning of March 30, we have booked a couple of small buses to take those interested in small groups to visit places such as:
- Forbidden City
- Tian'An'Men Square
- Summer Palace
(There won't be time to visit all these places in one trip; depending on your interest, we will try to arrange for different routes in parallel.)
** Please note that Trip B is an official part of the workshop
program and thus is covered by the Chinese hosts.
** We would need to pay ourselves for Trip A and Trip C (which will
not be reimbursable by the NSF). Because of the economy of scale,
the prices will be very reasonable (the final figures are still
being negotiated with the local travel agency). Trip A will
cost about USD 25-40. Trip C will cost about USD 20-30.
** For those of you interested in Trip A and Trip C, please send a
short email to idb08china@gmail.com to confirm your plan. After
receiving your preferences, the Beijing local arrangements staff
will confirm with you.
