Peer production — a form of open, online collaboration generating public information goods like Wikipedia, the GNU/Linux operating system, and OpenStreetMap — is among the most significant organizational innovations to emerge from the Internet-mediated communication networks. The growth and continuity of many peer production systems offer a unique opportunity for social scientists to understand the foundations and dynamics of large-scale human cooperation and collective action. The 2015 International Workshop on Network Theory: “Peer Production Networks” brings together thought-leaders engaged in research, development, management, and leadership of peer production systems and related phenomena. Through the event program, we will identify central challenges, set research agendas, and facilitate collaboration opportunities to explore the mechanisms that enable the formation and performance of peer production networks. This, the 7th International Workshop on Network Theory, is organized by the Science of Networks in Communities (SONIC) research group at Northwestern University, the Annenberg Networks Network (ANN) at the University of Southern California, the Northwestern Institute for Complexity (NICO) at Northwestern University, and the Developing Effective Leaders, Teams, & Alliances (DELTA) research laboratory at the Georgia Institute of Technology.
